Who else is ridiculously excited about the new Great Gatsby movie!? It’s clear from this trailer that I’m going to spend most of the movie ogling the amazing clothing. I’ve always loved the 1920s look: straight up and down, bare shoulders, glittering metallics, the contrast between plain, almost austere styling with wonderfully over the top trims: fringes, furs, feathers and jewellery. The great thing is, it is totally possible to add a bit of Gatsby flair to a modern wardrobe. While I would love to go around dressed as someone from Jane Austen, it’s not really practical – or ever going to happen! I adore the stark, boyish hairstyles of the lead female characters (Carey Mulligan as Daisy and Isla Fisher as Myrtle), which look amazing with their over-the-top jewelled headbands. When it comes to men’s fashion, the thing that really strikes me from the 20s is the sheer variety of suits: two piece and three piece, so many colours, so many styles. It makes me long for an era when men cared as much as women about dressing well. I mean, who doesn’t love a man in a good suit? Obviously I’ll have to shop around for broadband deals because I’m not going to be able to stop watching this trailer over and over – there’s no doubt that this film is going to inspire catwalk and high street trends when it comes out. New flapper dress for the weekend anyone? Watch The Great Gatsby trailer again HERE.
