From eating healthy and working out to perfecting an anti-aging strategy, it’s time to make beauty resolutions for the new year.

As the new year starts, it’s time to make the standard resolutions. Making SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely) goals increases the likelihood of being able to follow them. Follow these simple beauty resolutions to keep yourself looking and feeling healthy all year long.

Focus on eating better

Rather than obsess over the scale (I must lose 20 pounds by summer!) or pander to clothing sizes (I want to be in size six skinny jeans on my birthday!), put the emphasis on being healthy this year. Make it your resolution to eat fruits and vegetables while cutting back on junk food. There are a few easy swaps you can make too – buy whole wheat instead of white pasta or bread, drink water instead of soda, learn to enjoy coffee black or with milk instead of cream and sugar, and snack on celery sticks and orange slices instead of chips.

Find a realistic workout routine

A lot of us start the new year with the best of intentions for getting physically fit for the year. The problem is, many people start off too strong, creating a routine that is too difficult and unrealistic to stick with. The best bet is to make a new year’s resolution to be more active by incorporating workouts you enjoy that fit into your schedule without overwhelming your body. Spending an hour at the gym everyday starting at 5 am might lose its charm after a few months if you aren’t an early riser. Instead, balance work out time and mix it in naturally to your schedule. Shoot for 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

Start guarding against wrinkles now with an anti-aging program

It’s never too early to start fighting the signs of aging. To start with, select an overnight anti-aging skin care cream to use before bed. This will help your skin replenish itself overnight, reduce fine lines and give skin a softer, suppler glow. Your anti-aging regimen should also include a morning moisturizer with sun protection, as well as a cleansing face wash to use in the morning and evening. Consider trying an alternative method such as a skin rejuvenation laser to give your skin an extra boost. Using fractional laser technology, this procedure encourages the production of new collagen and skin cells by making tiny holes in the skin with a concentrated beam of light. The new skin looks softer, tighter and more even. You can purchase a skin rejuvenation laser for at-home use or can schedule an appointment at a salon or dermatologist office.

Put your goals into practice

After making your beauty goals for the year, write them down. You may find that breaking them into smaller goals throughout the year will help you stay on track. Check back in on your progress periodically to see if you are working towards meeting your goals.
