Happy International Women’s Day! Today not only marks a celebratory day for women around the world, but the launch of the #3YearGoals campaign. Starting today, I’ve committed to sharing my personal goals, as well as tips on how to achieve your goals over the next few months. As women we are powerful, we are strong, and we are capable of anything. See below for my story. Where do you want to be in three years?

International Women’s Day is not only a day to reflect on our achievements thus far, but an opportunity to be inspired for what’s to come. I’ve always been a huge believer in goal-setting, and have personally experienced the power that visualization can have in helping you achieve your life goals, even when it happens subconsciously. Have you ever hoped, dreamed and wished for something SO badly until it came true? It’s not magic that made that happen, it’s you.

It was around the age of 15 when I can pinpoint my first conscious realization that this power is real, and it started with something as small as acquiring a pair of shoes I wanted so badly it hurt. When I look back over the past 13 years since then, I can confidently attribute my greatest achievements to a combination of a laser focus and extreme desire to reach my pre-determined goals.

In high school, that meant getting into the best Fashion School in the country (and the only school I wanted to go to). Once I was a student at the Ryerson School of Fashion, I wanted to intern in New York City. After completing an internship at Teen Vogue in New York, I wanted to leave Toronto once I was done school. The day after my last exam, I hopped on a plane and moved to London, UK. In London, I read British ELLE like my Bible and dreamt of working there one day. After a year in London, I had a chance meeting with one of their Editors, who offered me a job. Even with my dream job at ELLE, I knew that when my Visa ended that spring, I wanted to move home, start a blog and eventually buy a house. So I moved home and started this blog four-and-a-half years ago. In that time I also started working for a company that enabled me to buy a home in downtown Toronto with my boyfriend two years later. I also hated working at that job, and, two years after that, I quit to pursue my dream (of working for myself!) full time. And now I’m here.

At 28 years old, I feel proud of what I’ve added to my life list thus far; it’s certainly a lot different from what I envisioned at 18, but I’m also a lot smarter than I was as a teenager and can now laugh at the fact that back then I thought I’d need to have y life “figured out” by the age of 25. Yeah, right. Probably the best thing that happened at 25 was that my quarter-life-crises anxiety attacks subsided and I finally chilled out a bit.

But now, 30 is looming and I’ve been regularly thinking about what my plans are for the next few years. I am someone who wants kids, but I’m also someone who is obsessed with her career and, now that I’ve finally reached a point where I’ve taken the leap to pursue it full-time, I want to focus on growing it as much as possible, before committing to growing a human. If I were to break down 3 of my #3yeargoals right now, here’s what they’d be:

1. Go from #GirlBoss to #BossLady

If i’m going to be over 30 in three years, I think it’s only appropriate to start referring to myself as a woman or ‘lady’ rather than a girl. When it comes to going from a #GirlBoss to a #BossLady, to me that means becoming an even bigger and better boss, in my life and career. My greatest hope, desire and goal over the next three years is to still be working for myself and excelling in my career.

2. Live More, Elsewhere.

One of the best things about blogging and working online is most definitely being able to work from anywhere. After living in New York and London, I’ve felt really settled in Toronto and haven’t had the desire to pack up and move again, until recently. While Toronto will always be my home, I’d love to spend more time in other cities around the world. So in the next three years, I’d love to live somewhere else for 1 to 6 months, more than once.

3. Upgrade #CasaGC

As much as I love my little #CasaGC, it is, well, little. In the next three years, I’d like to either buy a second home outside of the city, sell and buy a bigger home in the city, or renovate to expand the current house pretty extensively. Toronto’s housing market doesn’t exactly make any of these an easy goal, but with the right focus I’m confident I can make at least one happen.

It’s probably pretty obvious that my third goal relates to making room for a bigger family, but I’m sure I’m not the only one out there who has a family in mind for the future, while simultaneously making an effort to ensure having a family doesn’t start before I’m ready. But, sometimes that’s what being a #BossLady is all about, right?

I’d love to hear about your own personal #3yeargoals and some of the ways that help you achieve your goals and dreams. Share you story in a comment below or tweet me at @graciecarroll!
