True, summer is still officially a few weeks away, but for us, the season commences with Field Trip. Tops on our list of music festivals, Field Trip is set to take over Toronto’s Historic Fort York and Garrison Common this weekend, June 4th and 5th, and let’s just say, we are excited.
Why is the festival a favourite of ours? Let’s begin with the lineup; curated by those geniuses over at Arts & Crafts—the festival’s host—day one counts The National as its headliner, with Robyn closing the show come day two, while talent including Of Montreal, Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires, Holy Fuck, Santigold, Meg Mac, Brave Shores, Jason Collett and Nashville’s breakout stars, Lennon & Maisy, are among the artists performing throughout the day. Then there’s the festival’s bonus activities, like Laugh Barracks, where Kids in the Hall alum, Scott Thompson, and his comedian friends can be found, and the Analogue Gallery’s Sound Image Exhibition, the spot to brush up on your Field Trip history via a collection of photos highlighting the festival’s past. Lastly, let’s not forget, this festival is a family-friendly event (there’s a bouncy castle and hula hoops to prove it) with children 12 and under ringing in at the price of a round zero… cause parents like music festivals, too! (More earnestly than the girl in the crochet halter does, we bet.)
The countdown to Field Trip has begun, so it’s time to stop playing Drake’s “One Dance” on repeat, and start getting in the mood for the festival with music from this year’s featured artists. Below, a video playlist compiled of our favourite tracks by Field Trip’s class of 2016, complete with performance schedule for all you festival-goers. Happy listening!
