It might seem a little ridiculous to feel ‘burnt out’ from having to go to a lot of fun and glamorous events so often (I do realise how this sounds, trust me), but, endless early mornings and late nights can be – surprise surprise – exhausting! With a jam-packed schedule like my own, carving out time for “date night” is a recurring conversation that takes place with my boyfriend to ensure we get some quality time together each week. The only problem is, every time he suggests a ‘fun night out’ together, my response is a look of sheer horror. Actually leave the house on a night when I don’t have to for work? You’re mad!
Most often, our date nights consist of a #StayDate at home, and I honestly can’t think of a better date for busy people (and bloggers) who don’t spend enough down-time at home. So what does a #StayDate at #CasaGC look like? To be honest, it’s the furthest thing from a glamorous event, and that’s just how I like it because I like to do NOTHING but relax with my bae when I can.
A relaxing #StayDate with him most often involves no makeup, no fancy clothes (note wearing Josh’s Leafs jersey above), a movie on Netflix or *gasp* even a hockey game, getting some takeout or delivery, and snuggling on the couch with a refreshing cocktail or brew.
It’s no frills, for sure. But there are ways you can jazz up a #StayDate at home if you’re looking for more than a good ol’ snuggle session with your man and a box of pizza. In fact, my friends at Molson Canadian are just as much on team #StayDate as I am, and even sent me a care package to help inspire playful new ideas for having fun at home with their cute #StayDate roulette.
Some of their ideas include: Indoor Scavenger Night, Movie Night, Couples Yoga, Pillow Fort, Indoor Camping, and the Newlywed Game. I do enjoy that this can help shake things up for any couple, but also gives guys a fool-proof way to set up an awesome #StayDate for their partner without any required assistance. I mean, lets be real – they need to plan things on their own sometimes, right?
Since I’m the one who is at home less and always running around with a hectic schedule, I truly don’t mind making #StayDates with Josh laid back, and more about him. Hockey, beer and pizza? You got it, babe. And thanks to the light, fruity and refreshing taste of MC67 Session IPA, I’ll actually be enjoying beer alongside him.
If you’re planning a #StayDate of your own this weekend, here are a few more great tips to make your night even better:
1. Quality Over Quantity
Maximize quality time on your #StayDate by ditching your devices and focusing on your better half.
2. Chill That Drink
Warm beer? No problem. Wrap a wet paper towel around your can or bottle, and put it in the fridge for 20 minutes – a fast forwarded chill.
3. Have More Time For Your #StayDate
Get evening tasks out of the way before your #StayDate to maximize chill time. Workout at lunch and plan your date night meal in advance.
4. Set The Mood
Nothing says #StayDate like a perfectly cued pre-made play list on your fave music site and candles. The date night atmosphere is set instantly!
5. Spruce Up Your Space!
Start your evening off clutter free, by focusing on major surfaces for a five minute clean. Stick shoes in a closet, and sweep clutter into drawers. Also, dim the lights – that’ll hide any leftover mess!
Have Fun!!
