Wearing the classic “T-shirt and jeans” doesn’t always have to be in the most traditional sense. It’s okay to shake up even the most tried, tested and true outfits sometimes! For me, T-shirts and denim take up so much real estate in my wardrobe that they’re hardly ever reserved only for Casual Fridays. In fact, the reason I love T-shirts and jeans so much is that they can transform with you; and often all it takes is a quick change from a pair of Converse to some killer heels.
For a weekend stroll in Leslieville I want to look laid back, but not lazy. Comfy but cute, and stylish. This sporty yet feminine take on the classic T-shirt and jeans comes straight off the racks of Old Navy. That’s right, the T-shirt, the denim shirt, and even the skirt! Can you say, Carpe Denim: Seize The Tees or what?
To be completely honest, I actually wore this outfit twice in one week — don’t tell the Fashion Police! It was the perfect cool and casual look to take me from the office to dinner at a pop up restaurant on King West. On the weekend, I wore it to check out the Leslieville Flea Market. although, in future I would not recommend wearing heels to a market that has set up shop within a garden.
To emphasize the black detailing in the outfit, I paired the look with a few ‘haute’ black accessories to take things from sporty to chic. It’s really amazing what a good pair of cat eye sunglasses and strappy heels can do for an otherwise heavily tomboy-influenced look.
I do love a good pair of jeans more than anything (and often when paired with a classic T-shirt!), but my advice is: don’t be afraid to change things up and turn something classic into something new.
