Eating, drinking and napping…does it get any better than that? I don’t think so. If you don’t agree, then perhaps Soho House‘s new book, “Eat Drink Nap: Bringing the House Home” isn’t for you. For those that do agree, I suggest getting your hands on a copy of this coffee table book as soon as possible.
As a new home owner, and collector of cookbooks, Eat Drink Nap, has quickly become one of the books I reach for the most since it first landed on my dining room table. Filled with everything from tips on antique collecting and starting your own art collection, to some of their signature food and cocktail recipes, the book is like a reference for leading the most stylish and comfortably chic life possible.
What I love most is that it’s not just a cookbook, nor is it just a design book. Eat Drink Nap really is a fusion of both that will not only inspire you to cook and re-arrange your living room, but also provides an intimate look into their approach to design, cooking, eating and relaxing. Did you happen to notice the recipe for the House Macaroni and Cheese above? Getting that recipe alone almost makes the whole book worth it.
Whether you’ve ever been inside a Soho House or not, Eat Drink Nap gives you a detailed look at their houses around the world. Personally I spent a lot of time at Soho House, Shoreditch House and High Road House while living in London, England, and love reminiscing while flipping through the pages. Although I haven’t been to their locations in Berlin and Miami, I now feel like I have. Opening up about their houses, you’re also provided with design tips for almost every house there is, whether it’s a country house, beach house, or cool city house.
Not to mention hospitality tips, like how to make the perfect bed, and why they provide their guests a “One While Changing” cocktail in their room before the evening kicks off. Isn’t that a great idea? If only more hotels had the same one.
Food and family really do take centre stage in this book. Beyond recipes, there are even DIY recipes for making your own sausage and smoking your own fish. I really love owner Nick Jones‘ relaxed approach to cooking and hosting. In his recipe for Friday Roast Chicken he says, “So many people get nervous about having people over. They get their cookbooks out, thinking they need to up the ante and end up making things they’ve never cooked before, panicking and doing it badly. It doesn’t need to be that complicated. Stick with something you love to eat and learn to cook it really well. And be generous.”
Speaking of generosity, I think it’s rather generous that they went so far as to provide DIY beauty recipes from their Cowshed Spa. If you’re not yet familiar with Soho House’s Cowshed beauty products, they’re some of the best all-natural skincare you can buy.
The final word? Add this book to your collection as soon as you can. Get it for your friends as a great gift too. It will be a fixture on your coffee table that will actually come in handy for cooking, hosting, eating and drinking with everyone that you love. Eat, drink nap…be happy.
