What are the real first signs of summer? When I look into my closet and see bursts of colour, rather than a sea of black. It’s so refreshing to feel like I’ve come alive again, just like Mother Nature has after such a long and harsh winter. Just as one positive thought can change the way you approach your day, I believe that wearing the right colour can greatly impact your mood in an amazing way.
Blue has been my favourite colour for as long as I remember. Maybe it’s because I’m a Scorpio (which is a water sign) but I find all shades of blue to have both an uplifting and calming effect on my energy. Colours really do impact the way you feel, and you respond differently to different ones. When I was in Grade 8 a crazy hippy lady at a folk music festival had me take part in a colour energy test that demonstrated how different colours make you feel. I was dubious of her teachings at the time, but they’ve always stuck with me. The next time you reach for a colourful garment or accessory, listen to what it evokes inside you, and if it’s right for how you feel, or want to feel, that day.
As you can see here, there’s no shortage of blue in this summer look. I mean, why not sub your typical pair of blue jeans for a pair of powder blue cropped chinos instead? Not only are they lighter, but this is pretty much the only time of year that you can pull off wearing this type of pant, especially in a pastel colour. Tan sandals are another signature of my summer wardrobe; as someone under 5’5″ I love the way they elongate my legs. I couldn’t believe that Old Navy had this pair — that look exactly like Swedish Hasbeens — for only $34.95.
Paired with an easy t-shirt, light summer scarf, oversized sunglasses and a great tote, I can’t think of a better outfit to take me from shopping in the market, to hosting a backyard BBQ with loved ones. Welcome back summer, we’ve missed you!
