When it comes to basics, there are two kinds people: the type that buys the cheapest options they can find because “hey, it’s just a tank top!” and those that splurge on the simpler staples in their wardrobe because they have an appreciation for quality. If you fall into the latter category you will be happy to know that LA’s basic cult brand, James Perse, recently opened up in the luxe Toronto neighbourhood of Yorkville.
Filling two stories of a semi-detached converted Victorian, the boutique feels more like you’re shopping inside a stylised home, or extremely large walk-in closet. In fact, the boutique allows you to buy beyond their basic t-shirts, with furniture and lifestyle pieces made available for purchase too. My favourite pieces include the limited edition surf board and ping pong table that converts into a dining room table – imagine what a great dinner party feature that would be!
