One of my very best friends, the talented actress, Nina Gilmour (perhaps you noticed the recent massive feature on her in NOW Magazine called “That Gilmour Girl“?) is starring in an original adaptation of William Faulkner‘s AS I LAY DYING, this month at Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto. Although I have not read the book, I did see the show when performed last spring and it was incredible.

If you’re unfamiliar with the story, here’s a brief re-cap:  AS I LAY DYING is the evocative Southern gothic chronicle of the Bundren family odyssey across the Mississippi countryside to bury their wife and mother. Calamity haunts their 40-mile funeral procession, an absurdly tragic journey through the grotesque intersection of character and circumstance.

Famed novelist, Michael Ondaatje, recently attended the show and had this to say about it: “A wonderful and vivid translation of William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying. You will sear you have seen live horses and rivers in flood and barns on fire as well as the strangest and most heartbreaking family on that Passe Muraille stage.”

I highly recommend you check it out before the end of the month, you won’t be disappointed!
