Sometimes I feel like downtowners in Toronto can get stuck in a bit of rut when it comes to shopping – finding it very hard to venture away from the Queen Street West strip. As much as I love many stores in that area, shopping at the same places as everyone else is boring. For me, it’s thrilling to find new boutiques in different areas. Tabula Rasa was opened by fellow Ryerson Fashion graduate, Jennifer Park, a few years ago and is located at the corner of Broadview and Danforth. She has the cutest little shop, filled with her own vintage line and labels like One Teaspoon, BB Dakota, Gentle Fawn, Left On Houston and Mink Pink. Since returning home, I’ve found myself exploring the Danforth area on the regular, thanks to her shop. Besides the wonderfulness of Tabula Rasa, I’ve also discovered a great caribbean restaurant next door, and a really great nail salon around the corner. Shopping, lunch, nails – what else does a girl need on a Saturday afternoon?
I decided to pay the shop a visit with Steven Lee of Silhouetted Skyline to play dress up, here’s what I wore: Tabula Rasa vintage embroidered full skirt $60, One Teaspoon knit sweater $169, Something Else peach button up shirt $89, Sonia Rykiel shoes (my own, from Fashionably Yours).
