Lately it feels like all I can bring myself to wear is a pair of great jeans (most often in a boyfriend fit) and an easy shirt or light sweater. Can you blame me? This transition through a non-existent spring is weird and I don’t know what to wear. It doesn’t hurt that jeans and a tee is easy (and fast) to throw on when you’re in rush in the mornings, and is one of the comfiest ensembles you can wear outdoors that doesn’t involve sweatpants.

Of course there are ways to make your outfit appear to be more than just wearing jeans and a t-shirt. And that’s by fooling people into thinking you’re wearing something with a bit more oomph than such a basic outfit. Trust me, it’s easy, here’s how to do it:

First, you need to find a t-shirt or sweater that is basically just a basic t-shirt or sweater, but has a bit more to offer. Take this awesome sweater by Kain Label sweater that I found at the Jac btq. pop up in Toronto, it’s a light and cozy heather gray sweater with the addition of a snakeskin print blouse attached to the hem. I mean, I didn’t even have to put on two shirts to look like I did, guys!

Second, you need a comfortable pair of jeans that are cool. I love a slightly looser fit, and adding rips, or patchwork like on this pair from Fidelity denim, will provide an edge that adds to the rest of your outfit too.

Third, you’ll need a great jacket. Normally I’m pretty attached to my leather moto jackets, but when the weather gets nicer and brighter, I like to switch things up every once in awhile. As you  may have noticed, I love classic pieces with a twist (hence this post) and I love this military jacket by Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren from The Bay as an alternative to a springtime staple such as the trench.

Last but not least is the shoe. You can imagine how different this look would be had I been wearing a pair of Converse. While I avoid killing my feet with sky high heels these days, I do love a stylish kitten or mid heel like this snakeskin pair from Ann Taylor. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Ann Taylor has THE most comfortable shoes you can buy.

So what do you think? Do you love this look or think it still looks like a lazy day outfit? Both maybe? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!
