As someone who would be happy living the rest of her life in a pair of jean shorts and a tank top (although all by Alexander Wang, preferably) it’s always a joy to add pieces to my wardrobe that give a bit more oomph to the classic casual look of jeans and tee, with little added effort.

As anyone in fashion knows, working in the industry is often far from glamorous. Of course you need to look good, but you also need to be able to move and get down and dirty when you need to. For example, while I was an intern at Teen Vogue one of the other interns on the team was sent to help on a cover shoot. On the morning of, she showed up in a head-to-toe straight off the runway Miu Miu look (she was rather wealthy) and was basically laughed off set. Of course she looked great, but it was totally ridiculous to show up in an outfit that you couldn’t actually work in (as an assistant on set you’re basically on your hands and knees the whole day) and not to mention the whole thing was rather disrespectful.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, when you are working you end up wearing a lot more of your luxe basics than anything else.

When it comes to my denim preferences, I’m pretty simple and generally don’t like too many frills happening on them (except for my beloved Cheap Monday cheetah pants of course!) so I wasn’t so sure about these Fidelity jeans at first. The patchwork detail reminded me of Harajuku girl jeans, and I couldn’t decide if I loved them or hated them. But I took a chance on them nonetheless and they’ve come to be my favourite pair of summer jeans.

Because of their detail, I wanted to tone down the rest of my outfit and add a few more feminine touches to balance the distressed and slightly boyfriend look of the jeans. For this look I paired it with a lovely peplum top from Ann Taylor in an eyelet cotton (there’s nothing I love wearing more than a pretty white top in the summer!) and a pair of their wedge sandals that just melt into your feet when you have them on – you can hardly tell I’m wearing any shoes at all!
