Until cosmetic surgery  becomes free (or as my friend Brooke and I like to hope, it will be available to buy out of a box at the nearest drug store by the time we’re old) I try to take extra good care of my skin. In fact, lately it seems I have become obsessed with skincare.

When I was young, I never really understood why  my mom would walk around the house with a face covered in scary green goop. Was she trying to scare us? Because it always worked. Now in my mid-twenties, I have a full appreciation for “The Face Mask,” and hardly go a week without using one at least twice.

As someone who has very little time in her schedule for relaxing at-home spa experiences, I’ve come to rely on a few different masks to accommodate my lifestyle, and skin’s varying needs. Here are my current Top 5 Favourite Face Masks:

1. One Love Organic’s Brand New Day

This ‘mircroderma scrub and masque’ was introduced to me by the owner of Clementine Fields, one of my favourite online shops for amazing natural beauty products. I love that it can be used as a scrub, or a mask. You can also combine it with water, or, Greek yogurt for a clariying mask, or fresh raw honey for a hydrating mask. Don’t you just love versatile products?

2. SkinCeuticals’ Hydrating B5 Masque

This mask is a fantastic option for you if you’re looking for a powerful overnight treatment. The ‘intensely hydrating masque with vitamin B5‘ is one of my secret weapons that I use when my skin is looking particularly dull, or if I have a shoot the next day. As you can tell from the picture, the mask is clear, so although you will look shiny while sleeping, you won’t terrify the person sleeping next to you.

3. Vichy’s Aqualia Thermal Night Spa

If you’re on the hunt for a great product that you can buy from your local drug store, for example Shoppers Drug Mart (if you’re in Canada) then I highly recommend Vichy’s Aqualia Thermal Night Spa. Like SkinCeuticals’ Hydrating B5 Masque, the Night Spa is also an over-night wonder product. Go to sleep with this stuff on your face and I swear you will wake up with Supermodel skin. Although it is aqua blue in the jar, rest assured that it is clear when applied on your face.

4. Giovanni’s D:tox System Purifying Facial Mask

This is what I save for when I a) have time for 20-minute mask, and b) the boy is out of the house. This is definitely one mask that will be more than obvious on your face, but it will be worth it! I’m a huge fan of Giovanni‘s ‘eco chic skin care‘ products, and especially love that this mask is filled with activated charcoal, volcanic ash and super-antioxidants Acai and Goji berry. I mean, it also just sounds cool to say you are cleansing your skin with volcanic ash, no?

 5. Elizabeth Grant’s Torricelumn Intensive Collagen Face Pad

Now here’s a mask that will seriously make you look like like you’re straight out of a horror film, but it is certainly the closest thing you can get to a professional collagen mask at home. After using these, my skin is always so supple that I can’t help gently poking it at in the mirror over and over again. The results are honestly astonishing! They are also amazing for travelling which is a huge plus for gals on the go.
