It gives me so much pride and a great new hope for our country to now have a Prime Minister who is reaffirming what it means to be Canadian. Not only has PM Justin Trudeau opened Canada’s doors to Syrian refugees, but last week he literally opened his arms to greet them too. As the first 163 refugees to arrived in Toronto’s Pearson Airport by military planes last week, Trudeau was all smiles as he shook hands welcomed the first two families off the plane to their new home. All families that arrived received much-needed winter coats and warm clothing, along with a welcome pack to Canada, to help provide them with a few things they need as they start to settle in. Trudeau had this to say about Canada’s welcome to Syrian refugees (which has since garnered attention around the world):
“This is something that we are able to do in this country because we define a Canadian not by a skin colour or a language or a religion or a background, but by a shared set of values, aspirations, hopes and dreams that not just Canadians but people around the world share,” he said.
“So I thank you deeply for being a part of this because this matters. Tonight matters, not just for Canada but for the world.”

As incredible as it is to see Trudeau in such a hands-on position, you in no way need to be the Prime Minister of Canada to help Syrian refugees who are new to the country. If you are wondering how to donate to Syrian refugees in Canada, it’s easier than you think, especially if you are in Toronto!
As a long supporter of the New Circles charity (you may have read about their Prom Boutique I wrote about HERE, HERE and HERE), I’m very proud to share the news that they are now also accepting new and lightly-used clothing donations to help Syrian families who are new to Canada. And if you’re short on clothing to donate, by donating just $50 through New Circles you will be able to help supply 1 adult with season-appropriate clothing for an entire year – offering you an easier option for how to donate to Syrian refugees in Canada.

Welcome to Canada, everyone!
