This season, my favourite trend by far is wearing the statement tartan piece. I nearly died when my girl Stefania of Textstyles showed up to the Sharp Party in her super chic punk princess look, pictured above. Tartan isn’t always the easiest thing to pull off, and can be especially tough to warm up to for those who sported a uniform during their years of schooling. Just as Stefania has demonstrated here, the key to rocking tartan well is to let it stand out, pairing it with items that compliment it, not fight it.

Here are some some ideas for how to rock the tartan statement piece with selected items from Bon Prix.

How great is this tartan cape? I love a good mystery, and so any opportunity to channel my inner detective is one that I pounce on. For a great look that would easily take you from day-to-night, I suggest pairing the tartan cape with a glamorous (but subdued in black) jumpsuit, a great bag, and knit accessories to keep the look feeling casual during the day. Add a great heeled boot and you’re good to go!

One of my personal favourite ways to wear the trend is with a tartan pant, and they certainly don’t have to be worn with a safety-pinned band shirt if you don’t want to. To sharpen up this look, and even make it office appropriate, I suggest a crisp white blouse, blazer, and a fun bag like the metallic one shown here.
