Shopaholics unite under the designer flag of Fashion’s Night Out – an excuse for style enthusiasts the globe around to exercise their credit cards, while mingling alongside their local industry elites. Since its start in New York back in 2009, Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) has given cities from London to Berlin reason to break out the 4-inch party heels, with Toronto jumping on board as host for the first time this year.
While most FNO loyalists will argue that nowhere does it better then its originator — New York — with September 6th being the opening of the annual Toronto International Film Festival, and the highly anticipated blockbuster Looper being its premiere film, Toronto may just have what it takes (i.e. celebrity sighting tweets) to compete with the Big Apple’s FNO muscle.
On the nights agenda: New Yorkers have live musical performances courtesy of Helmut Lang to look forward to, on top of a cocktail reception at Oscar de la Renta for lucky ones, and for those who rather shop then schmooze, there’s Bloomingdales on-site monogramming gift with purchase to get in on — how very Upper East Side.
Showing off the magnitude of the event, Chanel will be launching a special Fashion’s Night Out collection consisting of three sets of matching lip and nail duos. The product will be available at select international Chanel counters.
As for Toronto, the city will look to its own fashion mecca: Holt Renfrew on Bloor to provide the glitz and glamour FNO demands with its “Hot in the City” street party, going from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Timed with the department store’s 175th birthday, we’ll be looking for some signature magenta products to be part of the must have goodies to buy up, in between designer gazing.
Whether you’re looking for Canadian designed fall essentials (see THE BAZAAR by RAC Boutique featuring designers including our favourite sister duo, Chloe Comme Parris, at The Burroughes Building, 6th Floor 639 Queen Street West), or discount designer shopping with added festivity (stop by eLUXE’s 355 Adelaide Street West location for an exclusive launch of the Smythe for eLUXE blazer, a trunk show from Rebekah Price and branded sweets from Megan Wappel designs, plus six giveaways. Photostar will be onsite snapping all guests), Toronto’s FNO is pulling out the big party.
Watch out TIFF, you’ve got some competition.
