The breathe of whimsy in Charlotte Taylor‘s designs recalls the magic of childhood games of make-believe. From parrot prints that conjure up the misadventures of pirates and smugglers, to mix-matched separates of varying prints paired together with gypsy flair, the young British designer’s FW12 collection takes all that is cheery and weaves it into a sophisticated wardrobe for stylish women with a marked spark of personality.

Below, Taylor shares her must have wardrobe items, plus a peek at the outfit she’s laid out for this festive New Year’s eve.

How would you describe your personal style?

Tomboy/ casual/ quirky.

What’s the oldest item in your closet, something that you just can’t bear to throw away?

I have a beaded waistcoat that belonged to my Grannie. It is beautiful and very unusual.

Who is your favourite designer, and what is your must-have item from their current collection?

Me of course! My favourite piece is probably the trumpet dress in the parrot scarf print.

What beauty items can be found in your purse at all times?

My MAC tinted moisturizer, it’s awesome!

Which do you prefer, hair up or down for special occasions?

I have short hair now, so it’s always down.

What is your perfect head to toe outfit for holiday cocktail parties such as on New Year’s Eve?

Hmmm…probably the Violin dress in the Devore print [from my collection], a pair of Polly platforms by Charlotte Olympia and my vintage suede bomma jacket.
