Did you know that Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world, with over 100,000 Canadians living with the disease? Personally, I didn’t, and I was shocked to learn of this concerning – and scary – fact when I opened up a press release about the Nerves of Steel Gala that landed in my inbox just last week.
I’ve always tried to use my blog (and social media) as a platform to help shed light on important causes and charities to help support others, and this upcoming gala to support the fight against MS was no exception.
The first ever Nerves of Steel gala is taking place on Saturday September 17, 2016, from 8pm – 12am at Arta Gallery in the Distillery District. 25-year-old Caleigh Smith is the Founder of the new annual gala, and decided to target the event specifically towards young professionals after discovering that the MS Society does not target it’s fundraising activities or awareness campaigns at this age group, despite the fact that MS is most often diagnosed in young adults.

Why was Caleigh compelled to start an annual gala with the MS Society’s “I challenge MS” platform? Unfortunately, she knows too well the impact this disease can have on families across Canada. Her own mother was diagnosed with MS before Caleigh was born, and went to live in a hospital when she was just two years old. Now, she wants her peers to step up to help her fight the battle of MS by attending the first ever Nerves of Steel gala this weekend.
