mexican michelada cocktail recipe

Today I discovered my new favourite cocktail and just had to share! While staying at the Barcelo Costa Cancun resort in – you guessed it – CANCUN, a friendly bartender served up a refreshing cocktail at brunch that knocked my socks off. Imagine the classic Canadian Caesar combined with the kick of Mexican spice and refreshing addition of a cold cerveza. This my friends, is  what you call the Mexican Michelada Cocktail Recipe!

Since it is easy to make, and you likely have the ingredients to create one in your own home (no matter where you live), I thought I’d share this tasty recipe for you all to enjoy. See below for how to make it!

Mexican Michelada Cocktail Recipe:

(recipe for 1 serving)

What You Need:

1/ 4 cup kosher salt

1 teaspoon chill powder

Juice of 1 lime plus 1 lime wedge

2 cups ice

3 ounces of tomato juice (1/3 cup)

4 dashes of Tabasco

4 dashes of Worcestershire sauce

One 12-ounce chilled Mexican-style beer, such as Dos Equis Amber

What To Do:

Combine the salt and chill powder on a small plate. Rub the lime wedge along the rim of a large lager beer glass, and then dip the rim into the chill salt. Fill the glass with the ice. Pour in the lime juice, tomato juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire and beer. Stir briefly to incorporate Garnish with the lime wedge and enjoy!

NOTE: For a large batch, make the tomato mixture ahead of the time before your guests arrive. Mix together the tomato juice, Worcestershire, hot sauce and lime, and refrigerate until cold. Add a few slice of jalapeño pepper for extra spice. Right before serving, rim the glasses with chilli salt and fill with ice. Pour in 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of the tomato mixture and top it off with beer.

Enjoy!!
