No matter how hard I try, I can never resist a little black dress. Why would I? It’s one of the most classic items to have in your closet, and currently, these dresses take up a quarter of the space in my own. An LBD can work for any person, season or event (yes, even a summer wedding).

Anyone from Audrey Hepburn to a Goth girl can pull one off, but my favourite thing about the LBD is that it can transition from day to night so easily. It never fails to look chic with a pair of flats and sunglasses during the day, and even more so with a pair of heels at night.

It doesn’t always have to look so “classic” either. This dress by 5 Preview, for example, is playful, and it’s perfect for the summer months with its unexpected cut-out back detail.

Here, I’ve chosen to pair the dress with my vintageChanel sandals, found at my go-to designer consignment store, Fashionably Yours, on Queen West. I always describe them as a ’70s pimp’s take on a Japanese sandal, because I am convinced that Uncle Karl must have recruited one to help with the design process of these particular shoes.

To me, this outfit is perfect an evening out on the town — anywhere from Yorkville to Parkdale.

What I Wore: 5 Preview dress from Rac Boutique, vintage Chanel sandals from Fashionably Yours.
