Despite the mild temperatures we’ve experienced this winter, Toronto isn’t exactly the greatest city to spend time in during the colder months; unless, of course, you actually enjoy low temperatures and grey days. Personally, I much prefer to spend winter in hot and sunny climates as much as possible, which is why I was ecstatic to get the chance to visit the city of Cancun, Mexico for the first time ever as an Expedia #BigWorldExplorer.

What I Wore takes on a whole new life when the surroundings are beautiful and the temperatures are high. I just can’t help feeling uninspired when I’ve been wearing the same old frumpy giant sweater for months. With the news that I’d be heading south, I immediately got excited to pack my bags with my favourite summer pieces.

One item that I’ve worn endlessly when it’s hot out (and when travelling) is a laid back and chic loose dress by Erin Kleinberg. Since I have worn my blue and white version nearly to death, I put in a rush order to receive the second colour way option Awake @ Sunrise Dress in time for my trip. Seriously, you’ve never met a comfier and cooler dress, which is why the stress to get a new one in time was worth it. Plus, I love wearing my favourite Canadian designers when I’m abroad to spread that patriotic pride when new acquaintances ask about what I’m wearing!

Even with booking on a couple of weeks before the departure date, I managed to find an amazing deal for our trip to Cancun through the Expedia.ca website. In fact, I was able to book an all-inclusive 7-day trip for two (including flights!) for just over $3500, with an incredible saving of over $1500! We stayed at the Barcelo Costa Cancun which is a much smaller resort than most in the Cancun area. What I liked about staying at the Barcelo was that it was small and clean with very friendly staff and fresh food with a lot of options. As a young couple looking to relax on vacation, it was also nice to be at a family-friendly resort that was fairly calm and chilled out. Because there is only one pool and a small section of beach for the resort, there are fewer children at the resort than most, and no on-site clubbing for party-crazed adults. To me, this resort had a very European, no-frills vibe to it, and that was totally okay with us.

These photos were taken just off to the side of the Barcelo beach, in front of a quaint beach bar with the BEST fresh coconuts (which could easily be turned into coconut cocktails *wink wink*) called the Sirenas Raw Bar. For a casual late-afternoon visit to Sirenas, I wore my beloved Erin Kleinberg dress with a pair of new round-frame Prada sunglasses, Proenza Schouler sandals, and trusty Tropical Gangster soft clutch bag from 6 by Gee Beauty that I always take with me when I go somewhere, well, tropical.

To be totally honest, “What I Wore” most on this vacation was a series of bikinis on the beach, rather than full looks. It was so nice to be able to go on a vacation where I was able to fully shut off my brain and not worry about anything for a week. I really owe it to the ease of booking with Expedia, and Barcelo Costa Cancun, for removing any stress from trip by providing excellent, smooth and trust-worthy service that I could rely on. All there was for me to do was show up and put my feet up, which is just want I wanted, and needed.
