When the heat in the city gets so hot that temperatures hit the 40s, there’s not much more that I can bring myself to wear other than a giant, breezy sack dress. Last week, however, I somehow managed to get myself into something a little more form-fitting before heading out to the Thomas Sabo preview on the rooftop of the Park Hyatt hotel.

I’ve always loved the ‘rockabilly’ look, and really admire those who dedicate their lives to perfecting their look from head-to-toe, every single day. I mean, think of all the effort that goes into the hairstyles and makeup alone! As a wash-and-go girl, who hardly wears makeup and rarely does her hair, that level of commitment just isn’t for me, but an easy side braid to get my hair out of my face and off of my shoulders on a super hot day I can deal with.

With my hair in this style I was inspired to play up the retro aspect of the look and paired this Ann Taylor eyelet pencil skirt with my white cat eye sunglasses. To avoid looking too ‘kitsch’ I added this criss cross-detail black crop top from Nowhereland and kitten-heeled Chanel wrap sandals to modernize the look. And of course my hot pink suede clutch from the Ela Handbags sample sale was the perfect piece for a powerful pop of colour.

What I Wore: crop top from Nowhereland, pencil skirt from Ann Taylor, clutch by Ela Handbags, shoes by Chanel.

Get The Look: Paris round-frame acetate sunglasses from Net-a-Porter, Kate strappy side bralet crop top from Boohoo, Hexagonal flower pencil skirt by Sister Jane, Navy clutch wallet by Free Endearment and Strappy Glazed high heel sandals by Grace Black
