The lobby entrance to Hotel Chandler

For the second half of my stay in New York a few weeks ago over NYFW, I moved hotels and stayed at Hotel Chandler a few blocks over. The Chandler is a very classic, high-end hotel in mid-Manhattan, an area of the city that I don’t often frequent. Because of this, I was eager to know all about the hotel, and the secret spots that surround it. I caught up with Hotel Chandler’s General Manager, Kate Martin, to fill me on everything I needed to know.

The king size bed in my upgraded executive suite!

GC: What type of clientele do you cater to most?

KM: We have a mixture of both leisure and corporate guests.  Our leisure guest varies from couples looking for a romantic getaway, honeymoons and anniversary celebrations to families looking to experience New York in a quieter more inviting environment.  Our corporate travels are usually staying with us as we have many corporate headquarters nearby such as New York Life and Credit Suisse.

Every hotel welcome should include red wine and Belgian chocolates.

GC: What would your recommend for the ‘ultimate stay’ at Hotel Chandler?

KM: For the ‘ultimate stay’ at Hotel Chandler book the Chandler Suite with its original fire place, four poster bed and jacuzzi tubs. Stay indoors and escape to Hotel Chandler’s intimate library with your favourite book or have our bartender mix up a cocktail in our new lobby bar. An added amenity guests love is our flight tracker located in our lobby- the ideal way to check your flight before heading out of town.

Even my slippers get their very own towel!

GC: What restaurants would you recommend in the area?

KM: Artisanal for cheese and wine, Eleven Madison Park for a nice dinner, ilili for a great Mediterranean meal.

I love turn down service before bed.

GC: What about bars and cafes?

KM: Cask Bar + Kitchen has a great happy hour, Terroir is known for it’s exceptional wine list and FIKA is known for serving some of the best cappuccino’s in Manhattan

The wonderful breakfast from Hotel Chandler that I enjoyed in bed.

GC: Any other hidden gems in the area that you think everyone should visit?

KM: Everyone traveling to NYC needs to check out Eataly, just a few blocks away from the hotel, this Italian “grocery store” is the ultimate destination for anyone looking for a culinary delight.

Overall I had a wonderful couple of days staying at Hotel Chandler. My executive suite was bigger than most NYC apartments, and the staff was exceptionally nice and attentive. By the way, did you see the size of my bed? It was practically the size of an entire block! Unfortunately while I was in New York that weekend, the horrendous blizzard, Nemo, decided to crash the city as well. For that reason I wasn’t able to meet Kate in person and now regret not having her awesome guide to the neighbourhood at the time of my stay – I had no idea any of her recommendations were so close by. Saying that, Chandler is around the corner from the city’s Korea Town, which means rows upon rows of Korean restaurant options are readily available for those who love Korean food, just like me.

If you decide to try out Hotel Chandler for your next stay in the city, you absolutely must grab a book (or magazine) and curl up in library room – it’s my favourite part of the hotel!

Thank you for having me, Hotel Chandler! xo
