We’re still feeling a bit teary that this year’s NXNE has come and gone so fast. When I say  ”we” I refer to me and my new intern sidekick, Hannah (Hi Hannah!). She is awesome because not only is she too a Scorpio with a little brother, and as obsessed with music, fashion, and food as I am, but she will kick and elbow her way through a crowd like a ninja to get to the front. This is a fantastic sidekick skill to have when a) your boss prefers to watch shows from afar, drinking vodka sodas in peace, and b) you and your boss arrive late to see The Black Belles and you need to get from back to front in less than 30 seconds.

Bands we saw and loved range from new-on-the-scene to legendary, but one thing they all have in common is that they are hugely inspiring in terms of style. Here is Part 1 of our NXNE scrapbook – a collection of our favourite shows and a collage of images that come to mind when we think of them.

MAC DEMARCO at The Drake Underground:

We were expecting something like this…

But then he looked more like this…

Which resulted in this…

Awesomeness. Listen to Mac DeMarco (from Montreal) HERE.

*

HOODED FANG at The Horseshoe Tavern

We saw this…

But they’ve inspired us to dress more like this…

And especially this…

In an environment more like this…

If that’s not reason enough to love them, I don’t know what is. Listen to Hooded Fang (from Toronto) HERE.

*

BLEACHED at The Silver Dollar

We love them because…

They remind us of Cali babes like this…

But more bad ass like this…

They also had a really cool NXNE poster…

Listen to BLEACHED(from LA) HERE.

THE DRUMS at 99 Sudbury

That darn surf song still gets us every time because…

It reminds of our dream life of living like this…

But with boards like this…

At a time more like this…

Listen to The Drums (from Brooklyn) HERE.

Stay tuned for Part 2 coming up tomorrow! xo
