Since Vancouver Fashion Week took place just over a week ago, I thought I should take this opportunity to honour the city with an Van City-themed week. To start, I called upon my newest blogette buddy, Miss Jen Tam of Her Waise Choice. Jen and I met back in February while we were both in New York City with BCBGMAXAZRIA for New York Fashion Week. Since she loves fashion and food just as much as I do, I figured she would be the perfect person to guide us around her Vancouver – take it away Jen!

CITY GUIDE: JEN TAM’S VANCOUVER

Where To Eat:

Brunch:

Catch 122: Casual, unpretentious, and bright, Catch 122 is the perfect place to enjoy brunch with girlfriends. The proscuitto, pear and brie tartine is my favourite; it’s a delicious melding of flavours and doesn’t leave you too stuffed. Brunch is also served until 5pm… which is kind of the best thing ever.

Dinner:

Miku: Vancouver has some of amazing Japanese food, and to me, this is one of the best. The Aburi Salmon is addictive and their sashimi is always fresh. Their green tea opera cake is one of my favourite desserts in the city!

Tableau Bistro: I love the decor and vibe of Tableau – it’s a great place for a weekend meal to catch up with a friend. I love that it’s in a quieter area of Downtown and I feel transported whenever I enter the restaurant. The French food is also solid and at a good price point.

Hawksworth: The best place to go for a dinner date. Super romantic, impeccable service, and the Pacific Sablefish is absolutely drool-worthy.

Dessert:

Nero Waffle Bar: opened by a sweet Dutch couple, these Belgian waffles are made to order (choose from Liege or Brussels), and topped with only the freshest ingredients. There’s a variety of both sweet and savoury items on the menu, but I love just getting simple dark chocolate and raspberries on a chewy Liege waffle. It is a small space and gets filled up quickly, so best to go earlier in the evening.

 Where To Shop:

Loft 82: Loft 82is a dream store for the practical stylish girl who wants to look feminine but not overly girly. It’s filled with basics with a twist, most of which are perfectly cozy, great for layering and easy to style… ideal for a city that is dark and dreary for a large part of the year!Blubird: Teeming with beautiful pieces found from all over the world, Blubird is the place to go when looking for a standout piece to add to your closet. Catering to different styles and at a variety of price points, you’re sure to find something that will suit your taste and that you’ll love for years to come.

Where To… Spend a Sunny Day:

Granville Island: Anyone who’s ever been to Vancouver knows that sunny days are rare and should be treated as gold. One of my favourite ways to spend a warm day in the city is on Granville Island. My ideal itinerary would go something like this: having brunch at Edible Canada, browsing the shops in the Net Loft, spending the afternoon paddle boarding, getting ice cream at Roger’s Chocolates, picking up fresh flowers and eating Chicken Pot Pie at the Public Market, and finishing off the evening with some laughs at the Improv Centre. Oh, and it also helps that the island is incredibly picturesque and there is something stunning to photograph on every corner… perfect for a blogger!
