Alright, let’s not pretend like we don’t all have equally as embarrassing prom photos, but, we also can’t deny how fun it is flip through bad celebrity photos to feel better about our own, right? Or at least rejoice in the fact that ours (hopefully) won’t be on display for the whole world to make fun of.

But the real reason I bring up these photos, of course, is to highlight a very important cause. And no, it’s not celebrity makeovers. The real reason is to remind everyone of New Circles‘ annual donation drive for their upcoming Prom Boutique!

The New Circles Prom Boutique is an amazing initiative that allows Toronto teens in need to go and “shop” for their dream prom outfit that they couldn’t otherwise afford. For many of these teens, being able to pick out a new dress or suit, is the difference between getting to attend their prom, or not. No matter how bad your outfit was back then, we can all relate to how important it was to have the perfect outfit for the big night.

Now, we’re not suggesting you dig out your old prom clothes and donate them. We don’t want these poor kids to end up looking like Rihanna and her date, or worse, like Tapanga and Lance Bass below! But so many of us accumulate an abundance of extra clothing without ever thinking twice. How often have you run out to buy a new outfit for a date, or Saturday night out, only to never wear the same outfit again?

If you have spare clothing and accessories (ideally on the dressier side) for girls and guys to donate, be sure to drop off your  donations or arrange a pick up for the Prom Boutique by April 11th.

New Circles is currently seeking:

·         Gently used formal wear for young women (dresses) and young men (shirts, pants, blazers, suits)

·         Purses, shoes, jewelry, shawls, shrugs, formal jacket/blazers for women

·         Ties, bowties, dress shoes for men

·         New makeup for girls

·         New toiletries for boys

For anyone in the downtown core, you can drop your donations at Shop Sauvage on Queen Street West For a full list of the donation drop off locations click HERE. And for the full gallery of ‘Awkward Celebrity Prom Photos’ from MTV Fora, click HERE.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to help support Toronto teens in need and ‘spring clean’ your closet!
