Winter is fast approaching, and with the sun setting earlier and earlier, our moods like the weather, grow somber — or so the season’s penchant for vampy makeup trends would suggest. From noir eyes to bold bitten lips, this autumn’s preferred beauty look is of a gothic breed of glamour.

A deep wine stain shade on the lips (best in a strong matt finish) is gorgeously dramatic when paired with neutral makeup. Remember to exfoliate, mulberry tones and matte textures don’t go well with flaky lips. Or, add a swipe of gloss over your pucker for a sleeker look.

Try: Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Volga

Bleaching your eyebrows is not necessary to achieve this season’s gothic fairy look. For an everyday version, focus on a Renissance-inspired eye that sees matte shadow in a pale peach-champagne shade brushed over the entire lid, and below the bottom lash line. Edgar would approve.

Try: Chanel Premier Regard Quadra Eye Shadow

Relive the 90s with a soft smudge of black liner on your lower lash line. Avoid verging into smokey eye territory by either going neutral with the eye shadow, or skipping it all together. Finish the look with a thin coat of mascara, matched to your natural lash shade.

Try: Clinique Kohl Shaper For Eyes in Black Kohl

Stay near the mulberry family for this look, but with a hint more chocolate to get an oxblood shade. Start bold on the top lip and outer edge of lower lip, then carefully use your finger to transfer colour inwards to lightly fill centre.

Try: Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Orchid

Elevate your cat eye to glam rocker with rich shades of black and velvet brushed across your lid. Apply so shadow becomes lighter towards outer edge, then use a brush to trace a thick line of shadow around bottom lash line. With eyes this dramatic, any outfit becomes an evening look.
