Spring is upon us, and like clockwork, with it has arrived an itch for revitalization and renewal, found in a mighty closet purge. Winter is over and the fun times await, meaning: Bring on the bounty of colour, feather light materials and relaxed tailoring we’ve been missing since last August. Below, the top five trends you’ll want to stock up on when climatizing your wardrobe to the warmer months ahead.

Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Trends

Gucci was the unicorn of the spring/summer 2016 fashion season. The new collection is fresh with a Bohemian appeal, quite foreign to the brand. It would seem that under the guidance of the label’s new creative director, Alessandro Michele, Gucci has found its inner quirk, and my, is it colourful. Chipper in tone and coquettishly feminine in structure, the colours in the collection remind us of cotton candy at a country fair, while the breezy tailoring of its standout dresses lent a gypsy air to Michele’s designs. Now, all you need to do is incorporate that sugary sweet candy floss pop into your everyday look!

Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Trends

When talking fashion, spring marks the end of layering, or at least calls for less layers. (Mix-matching textures is a perennial fashion trend, after all.) It’s a time for light fabrics that stand strong on their own, and this season, the runway’s fabric of choice is silk. From the boudoir to the streets, this trend is all about romance. Dare to slip into something that looks like it was meant for the bedroom, out to a party—dress it up with chunky mules or dress is down with a pair of Western-inspired booties, any way works. We like Chloé’s take on the trend, which sticks to their signature neutral color wheel and uber girly cuts. Keep to light tones and simple tailoring, like a tiered dress, for an easy transition from day to night, or invest in a staple silk blouse that plays at lingerie comeliness by way of lace detailing.

Wide leg trousers are back in full force. We like these in solid shades, particularly bold yellow-gold tones—a key colour this season—worn with anything from heels to sneakers. Even paired with the latter, the glamour of your trousers will keep you looking formal enough for cocktails at seven. Go for a statement look with a super wide fit, as seen at Marni. When wearing these, it’s hard to argue the fact that looking as if you just stepped off of a yacht in the south of France, isn’t a timeless trend.

What’s soft, sweet and oh so spring? Lace! It looks beautiful on just about everything and goes everywhere, from the office to date night. Be daring and embrace lace’s sexy peek-a-boo effect, as the Burberry Prorsum’s SS16 collection does, or go demur and try it layered under something a little less risqué. If head-to-toe lace is a little to princess-y for you (though honestly, a fit and flare lace dress looks good on just about everyone), try separates that flaunt lace accents, like on cap-sleeves for a more vintage-inspired look.

Nothing says “spring,” quite the way flowers do. And so, it’s no wonder that every year, florals turn up as a season trend. The trend may be inevitable, but we still love it. This season, floor-length and flowy is what you want, whether you go traditional print or modern graphic. Dolce & Gabbana married the two styles for a timeless look that wields contemporary edge.  A blazer is a unique way to try the trend, but should you opt for a more traditional dress (short or long), pair it with lace-up block heels for supreme feminine appeal.
