There is something to be said for subtly. There is a power that lies within the details — a beauty that is amplified through restraint. Jeremy Laing‘s SS13 collection exemplifies just such a winning subtly of detail, and concentration on fine tailoring.
Laing’s runway showed off models in a mix of layered, flowing silk and chiffon looks with loose silhouettes, and structured separates with architectural flare. Underlining the collection is a sportswear sensibility: sheer metallics have been reimagined as dresses and cropped pants teamed with uniform like jackets. Fabrics and textures simultaneously contradicted and balanced one another. Military influence accent pieces in an assortment of shoulder plates and utilitarian-esque fasteners, while a corresponding industrial chic edge has been added in the form of sexy cutouts, paired with embellished hits of detail such as bibs. The collection’s monotone colour palette is clean and sophisticated in its muted blush, cream, black and charcoal shades. The femininity of the pieces is revealed through movement, as seen in the fluid, natural grace of fabrics as they cascaded down Laing’s runway.
