As the lights turned on, and models began to make their way down the runway, a procession of Rayanne Graff doubles took centre stage. They sauntered, mimicking the glamourous apathy behind the show’s soundtrack, Nirvana’s “No Apologies.”
A cool mix match of textures from velvets to sheers, Chloé Comme Parris’ Fall/Winter 2013 collection exudes the effortless allure of ’90s era grudge, brilliantly evoked in made-to-be-seen silk slips and thigh grazing hemlines, coupled with more masculine outer layers of structured leather and boxy cropped jackets.
Sat beside FILLER, enjoying the parade of gorgeous printed stockings and silk blouses that specked designers Chloé Gordon’s and Parris Gordon’s World MasterCard Fashion Week show was our guest, stylist Terri Dacquisto.
A rising talent hot on the radar of fashion’s in-the-know, Dacquisto has made her name translating her unique personal style into a portfolio of editorial looks that exemplify rock and roll elegance.
Below, Dacquisto shares her runway notes on Chloé Comme Parris’ latest collection, and chats about how this year’s Fall/Winter trends feed into her own personal style.
RATE THE IMPORTANCE OF FASHION IN YOUR LIFE.
Oh an 8!! Fashion allows you to be creative in your every day life in expressing who you are, and how you want to be perceived! I love the endless opportunities fashion has, as it has so much room to grow and move; it’s never ending!
BASED ON WHAT YOU’VE SEEN TONIGHT. WHAT DO YOU PREDICT TO BE THE BIGGEST TREND TO HIT THE STREETS NEXT SEASON?
Grunge will most definitely be one of this upcoming Fall/Winter 2013-14 biggest trends! Tonight’s grunge inspired vision featured raw silks, leathers and velvets, where small details such as chains, frayed edges, printed knee highs and flatforms charged the runway…and by charge I mean walked in a dazed like trance of course.
DO YOU THINK YOU’LL INCORPORATE THIS TREND INTO YOUR OWN WARDROBE?
Absolutely!! Whether it be an old oversized leather jacket, some tattered jeans or even a few chains, I will definitely be carrying this trend into my wardrobe!
ARE YOU MORE OF A TREND PERSON OR A STAPLES PERSON?
I’d have to say that I am more of a staples girl, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t like to have fun and partake in the trends! I love being able to take your style and create a completely different look by incorporating accents from the current trends.
WHAT IS THE MOST EXTRAVAGANT PIECE IN YOUR CLOSET AND WHAT IS THE MOST COZY?
My most extravagant piece is definitely my vintage fur, it also requires the most work keeping it updated! My most cozy piece would have to be my tattered black wool sweater that has started falling apart on me, but luckily for me this should fit right in with the F/W trends!
IF YOU COULD TAKE ONE PIECE FROM TODAY’S RUNWAY WHAT WOULD IT BE?
By one you mean atleast five right?! Ok ok one…I’d have to say the frieze dress. I just love the texture and simplicity of it, and how it has just a touch of embellishment on the cuff!
IF YOU COULD HAVE WATCHED TONIGHT’S SHOW WITH ANY CELEBRITY, DEAD OR ALIVE, WOULD IT BE?
Hmmm…I’d have to think about that. Can I get back to you on this one!
WHAT SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE AS THE RUNWAY SOUNDTRACK TO THIS COLLECTION?
Chloe Comme Parris opened their show with Nirvana’s “All Apologies.” I could not have picked a better song for this ’90s grunge inspired collection! It was a perfect fit!
WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON TO IMPRESS AT FASHION WEEK?
Yourself of course! Go to Fashion Week looking good and feeling good, and you’ll impress everyone just by showing up… not too mention the photographers…wink, wink. A little press never hurt anyone!
WHAT WAS THE SINGLE ELEMENT ABOUT THIS FASHION WEEK THAT IMPRESSED YOU MOST, ON OR OFF RUNWAY?
My favorite part of Fashion week is the atmosphere. You can feel the energy of the craziness backstage and the excitement of the viewers before the show starts. It’s just a great feeling of something to come!
