Duy Nguyen of the eponymous label Duy presented a darkly romantic collection. Called “Long Live Daphne” and inspired by the inimitable heiress Daphne Guinness, the Duy fall/winter 2011 collection highlighted the strength and individuality of women with contemporary silhouettes, a strong colour palette and luxuriously edgy textures and layers. Pros
– sheer French lace layers evoked an hard-edged romanticism
– an opening look was both regal and editorial worthy
– the lace pasties were a nice touch though I don’t expect to see many Canadian fashion enthusiasts lining up for a pair
Cons
– though creative the lace appliqué on the models’ faces drew attention away from the design
– the fit was not always perfect
– apparent that some looks were unfinished, rushed and incomplete
– fabric pairings were not complementary
– the leopard print pieces seemed a little tired and overdone
– some of the styling choices were misguided and did little to enhance the garments
