A studio exhibition of Judith and Charles’s S/S 2012 collection was the ideal way to show off their line. For clothing that consists of mostly staple ready-to-wear pieces rather than ones designed for editorial purposes, placing the collection on display gives the audience the time to mediate on how they will work the various pieces into their own closet.

Greeted by white mannequins, set up in the middle of a stark white room, turning full focus upon the clothing. I spend some time checking out the details of these tailored pieces.

Every outfit in this collection seems to have a classic piece within it — a staple. This is clothing that you would buy and wear over again, season after season. I contemplate the basic colour palette of creams, beiges, peaches, and blacks, it works well with the pop of colour found in the yellow jackets and mustard brown shorts.

After a slow stroll through the room, I go back to visit a few of the stand out pieces. Amongst them: a peach pleated skirt, an orange structured blazer and a beautiful cream dress with black leather trim — it has something of a Chanel-esque style to its design.

I complete my walk thru. I’ll be anticipating the arrival of spring a little more now since seeing this collection, I’m in need of refreshing my staples.
