My childhood heyday took place during the ’90s, making me a child of grunge through and through. While most girls in my grade five class were obsessing over Backstreet Boys, I was busy daydreaming about Billy Corgan. I owe it all to my mom for handing me Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins, because it was the album that altered my pre-tween life.

In fact, the first concert I attended on my own was The Smashing Pumpkins at Koolhaus when I was 12. Sadly, Billy did not respond to any of my cries for him to marry me that night. Over 10 years later, I’m still holding out for a real answer.

Naturally, ripped jeans, baggy sweaters and plaid anything have always come into play in my wardrobe. They are ingrained into my style. Yet, my penchant for plaid shirts has often been restrained in fear of losing all feminine appeal and channeling too much of that “lumberjack” look.

The moment I laid eyes on this elongated plaid-print chiffon dress shirt from Nowhereland, I knew it was the perfect piece to change everything. As soon as I put it on, I thought: “Kurt Cobain would approve.” This isthe statement piece for my unwavering ’90s spirit.

But since the dress is sheer, the question was, what to wear underneath? Playing up on the sex appeal a plaid shirt could have, I decided to show some skin through it.

Here, the base of my outfit is made up of a pair of black, high-waist skinny jeans from Fidelity that feels like a second skin, along with the 9to5 bra by Wink Intimates. This is one of the most genius products to ever hit the market for busty women. Instead of having to layer up with camisoles to hide an abundance of cleavage, the 9to5 is has a piece of fabric overlaid across the front. When layering with high waist bottoms, it has also proven to be a great substitute for a bandeau.

To complete the look, I accessorized with a pair porcupine quill earrings, along with vintage Italian boots with wrap ties that resemble a modern-day design by the king of street cool, Alexander
