September in Toronto means one thing: TIFF. No, that does not stand for Thank (God) It’s F***ing Friday, it stands for the Toronto International Film Festival. As most fashion folk begin to look to the runways, here in Toronto the first half of September is all about glitz, glamour, and red carpets. Of course along with the celebrity spotting and parties comes the need for multiple outfits for events, and enough effort in the hair and makeup department to make it look like you got more than three hours sleep the night before.

This particular outfit is What I Wore to the TIFF screening of The Grand Seduction at Roy Thomson Hall, as a guest of Metro. It’s always a treat to get to watch a film (and in this case a Canadian one) in downtown Toronto’s iconic concert hall at this special time of year.

Almost anything goes when it comes to screening attire during TIFF. As I walked through the lobby of Roy Thomson Hall that evening I could spot everything from ball gowns to basic jeans and a t-shirt. I guess my outfit falls somewhere in between the two, only I nixed the jeans for an amazing pair of gold pants from Ann Taylor, and put on a sparkly pair of statement earrings from The Outnet. I think that both helped me channel the glitz of a fancy dress.

Since Metro‘s after-party would be a fun, food-filled affair on The Thompson rooftop to celebrate their new app (have you checked it out yet? It’s awesome.) I thought these dazzling fish bone earrings (my new favourite dinner party accessory) would be perfectly suited to the event.

Like I said earlier, hair and makeup is just as important as your outfit during TIFF. I mean, it often takes professional help to cover up the fact that you look like a total zombie underneath it all. Personally I rely on a good blow dry and red statement pout to distract from the bags under my eyes. But most importantly, I add a spritz of perfume before I walk out the door to perk me up. Right now my perfume of choice is Calvin Klein‘s newest fragrance, Downtown, which, as can probably tell, is perfect for a downtown girl like me.
