Last fall, one of my best friend’s besties set up shop at 4th and Alma in Vancouver. A bestie of one of my besties is naturally considered to be a bestie of mine too, so, we caught up with Rebecca Rawlinson of Rebecca Bree boutique to find out more about her fashionable new digs.

How and when did you get the idea for Rebecca Bree?

I’ve always wanted to open my own store, it’s one of those things you kind of just know, and I knew from the time when I was very little. The concept that actually came to be ‘Rebecca Bree’ took flight in early 2011. Rebecca is my first name and I always think of myself as being part of the brand so it just felt like a natural fit.

How much time did it take to launch after you came up with the concept?

We opened in September 2012, and definitely took our time finding the perfect location and my man built the store from the ground up so that sure took some time! All in all, everything was worth the wait and I’m so happy we didn’t rush any decisions. Dreams take patience!

What inspired the motif and aesthetic for your shop?

I wanted a little slice of Paris in Vancouver. Like most girls, I love all things pretty and wanted to create that beautiful bright boutique I envisioned. And I’m all about the little touches, so the smell of flowers and some gentle french music are key for me. The store is a good escape from the constant rain.

How has the reception been in Vancouver?

Totally great, I have no complaints! People sometimes say Vancouver isn’t a very fashion forward city but I wholeheartedly disagree, my clients are some of the chicest women I know.

Why did you choose to open up at 4th and Alma?

I have always lived in Kits, I love the people, I love the area and I think we’re filling a gap in the market. As much as women like to dress down in Vancouver they also like to dress up – throw on some fabulous jewelry and some heels and hit the town. We want to be a destination shop for our customers and budding community.
