Toronto summer music festivals 2016

Summer in Toronto is that magical time of the year when everyone is happy and actually enjoys spending time outdoors. There also happens to be an abundance of fantastic music festivals with amazing lineups that make it easy and convenient to enjoy the festival season without having to leave the city, or at least not go too far away from home to attend.

When it comes to music festivals during the summer, of course what matters most is 1. the lineup, 2. location, 3. who you’re going with, 4. what you’re going to wear, and 5. what to pack to ensure you are prepared for everything, even allergies! You never know when you’ll get hit with a seasonal allergy attack before seeing your favourite musical artists live on stage. For this reason. I’ve teamed up with REACTINE® to bring you a list of the best Toronto summer music festivals of 2016 to make sure you don’t miss any of them – whether you’re an allergy sufferer, or not.

Be sure to keep all the essentials on hand, and that includes REACTINE. Depending on the time of year, from pollen to ragweed, REACTINE can help keep allergy symptoms at bay and if you need a little extra help to relieve dry, irritated nose don’t forget to bring NaturEase Nasal Spray.

Here are my Top 5 picks for the best Toronto summer music festivals 2016 that you don’t want to miss:

Toronto summer music festivals 2016

1. CBC Music Festival

When: Saturday, May 28, 2016

Where: TD Echo Beach in Toronto

Why: Because summer in Toronto just isn’t the same without seeing a live show down at TD Echo Beach and getting to dance around in the sand. I particularly like the Canadian-focused lineup that includes The New Pornographers, Alvvays and Zaki Ibrahim (to name a few) and that tickets are an affordable $39.50 each. Visit http://music.cbc.ca/#!/CBCMusicca-Festival for more info.

2. Field Trip

When: Weekend of June 4 & 5, 2016

Where: Fort York & Garrison Common in Toronto

Why: I love this family-friendly downtown festival that’s easy to get to, and doesn’t involve any camping. This year, performances include Robyn, July Talk, Santigold, Lennon & Maisy, and many more of my favourite acts! Visit http://fieldtriplife.com/ for more info.

3. Bestival

When: Weekend of June 11 & 12, 2016

Where: Woodbine Park in Toronto

Why: One of Britain’s most renowned music festivals picked the one-and-only Toronto to expand beyond their English roots for the first time ever. Last year, the festival experienced a very wet weekend on the Toronto Island, and will be moving to Woodbine Park in the beaches for this year’s festivities, making it easier to get to (and easier to get home) for everyone. The impressive lineup includes everyone from Tame Impala, Jamie XX, The Cure, Grimes and Art Department. Visit http://www.bestival.ca/ for more info.

 nxne toronto 2016

4. NXNE

When: Week of June 13-19, 2016

Where: All throughout downtown Toronto

Why: One of the music festivals that I look forward to most throughout the year, I definitely have a soft spot for the North x North East week-long city music festival, and the wild, late nights that come with it each year. Not only do some of the world’s best bands come to town to play in the city’s best music venues, but many of the biggest names perform free concerts in public spaces such as Yonge & Dundas Square. Visit http://nxne.com/ for this year’s schedule and more info.

5. Way Home

When: July 22, 23, 24, 2016

Where: Oro-Medonte, Ontario

Why: If you’re looking for the music festival experience that involves camping (or glamping) then the second annual Way Home festival in Barrie is for you. The 3-day, overnight festival will get you as close to a Glastonbury experience as you’re going to get in Canada, and this year you can enjoy a phenomenal lineup that includes everyone from LCD Soundsystem to HAIM. Visit http://wayhome.com/ for more info.

I hope this list will help get you as excited as I am for Toronto summer music festivals this year, and there’s a good chance you’ll see me at all of them! Along with staying very hydrated at these outdoor events, my next best advice would be too have a pack of REACTINE® in your purse, and follow @ReactineCA on Twitter for your local pollen forecast.

See you there!
