Kelsey Serwa

Remember when you saw that quote about Beyonce having as many hours in a day as you do, how silly you felt for ever complaining that you’re ‘so busy’? Well, that happened to me again when I had been ‘too busy’ to look into which Olympic champion was going to be downward dogging next to me at Zico Coconut Waters Jock Yoga event in Toronto just as Sochi 2014 came to a close. I had assumed it would be an Olympian from at least the last Olympics, I mean, how could anyone from Sochi already be back in Canada for a yoga class? Before I entered the class doors, I took a second to pull up the invite and figure out who it was going to be once and for all. KELSEY SERWA!? I freaked and literally started having a major fan girl moment. As an avid skier since the age of 3, I was ecstatic that two Canadian girls won Gold and Silver at Sochi in women’s ski cross. The fact that the silver medalist herself would be in the same room as me? BEYOND.

Kelsey Serwa Jock Yoga

Here is Kelsey showing off her impressive Madonna Arms alongside Jock Yoga creator and instructor, Michael DeCorte. When I asked Kelsey about her travels back to Canada (she had arrived the night before) and noted that she must be insanely jet lagged, she shrugged it off like no big deal. No big deal? Taking the subway for more than 30 minutes is a big deal to me! Clearly I am not cut out to be an Olympic champion.

Kelsey Serwa silver medal

Kelsey generously let everyone hold, try on and take pictures with her silver medal. Let me tell you, that thing is HUGE and HEAVY! Personally I think Kelsey should keep it on her at all times as it would really come in handy for self defence. I heard those streets of Kelowna, BC (where she is from) can be pretty rough! Not really, but it’s also just a good excuse to wear it around all the time for no reason.

Soon we all got down on our mats for an intense Jock Yoga class. Michael created Jock Yoga for athletic people that aren’t necessarily the most flexible. His class was no joke either, it was a serious workout class that had most of us trembling by the end of each pose – but our toned muscles thanked us later!

Since Fashion Week is currently coming to a close in Toronto, I figured this was a good time to share a few healthy smoothie recipes after all those late nights and flowing glasses of bubbly!
