Celebrity Trainer Harley Pasternak Shares His Top Tips For Working Out with FitBit!

(posing with my girls Casie Stewart and Nelia Belkova with Harley Pasternak)

Probably one of the coolest and funnest things about my job as a blogger and fitness enthusiast is getting to work out with celebrity trainers. I definitely do not need everyone I work out with to be popular and well-known, but it is undeniably fun to get to experience a dynamic workout with someone who regularly trains some of the world’s biggest celebrities. For example, a couple of years ago I had the opportunity to participate in an intimate fitness class lead by the one-and-only Tracy Anderson (loved by everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow to Madonna), earlier this year I got to interview fitness and health queen Brooke Burke, and just a couple of weeks ago I was put through a booty-focused workout lead by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak who regularly trains the Kardashians!

The event was in partnership with FitBit to launch the impressive new FitBit Blaze, and before working out, the group of Editors and Bloggers were dressed from head-to-toe by New Balance and each set up with a new FitBit watch before the workout.

With its new colour touchscreen, connected GPS, Pure Pulse heart rate and on-screen workouts, there are a lot of game-changing new features that come with the the FitBit Blaze. But why bother wearing and working out with a fitness smart watch? I decided to ask Harley Pasternak himself for his top tips:

Harley’s FitBit Tip #1

When life gets busy, a short workout is better than nothing. Even if you don’t have time to do a full or half hour workout or 5km jog, making the time to walk to get coffee, take your conference call while walking around the office, or take the stairs will make a difference in the long run. Everyone can change their lives and find ways to fit fitness into their day, and it’s easy to track your extra movement and activity with a Fitbit device which can help you meet your goals.

For busy people, Fitbit Alta has the Reminders to Move feature that will nudge you to get up and move every hour – listen to it! It’s important not to stay sedentary for too long and try to walk around regularly throughout your day, even if it’s only for 2 or 3 minutes.  With most Fitbit trackers you can also now see how often you’re moving throughout the day with Hourly Activity tile in the Fitbit app.

Working out with friends is a great way to stay motivated. The Fitbit app allows you to share updates and participate in friendly competition with your friends and family, no matter where in the world you’re located!

Harley’s FitBit Tip #4

A great way to take your workout to the next level is to pay attention to your heart rate. Tracking your heart rate through your workout shows the calories you’re burning, and also gives you a window into how intensely you’re training. With Fitbit Blaze, you’ll be able to see the heart rate right on your device – which is great because you can see how your heart rate changes over time. To know you’re at the right workout intensity, you should still be able to talk to the person next to you while you’re exercising.

Even as someone who regularly works out, I do love that the FitBit Blaze helps me easily keep track of just how much I’ve moved and burned in a day. It’s also a very good reminder to walk more and Uber less! Plus it looks pretty cool on your wrist and totally makes people think you’re extra serious about your fitness. Woo!

Thanks for a great workout Harley and FitBit!
