For fashion lovers, the year’s rainy months are an excuse to do a full wardrobe purge in the name of spring-cleaning. To help guide you as you peruse through the latest fashion collections, we’ve rounded up a list of our must-have spring 2014 items to build your closet around. Embodying the runway’s most wearable trends this season, these items are the perfect complement to your everyday style.

Spring-trends-2014-Wide-Leg-Pants

Wide leg pants offer a breezy and casual silhouette that move beautiful with soft spring winds. Wear them to work with a cute silk blouse and then after office hours, just add a little height via some platforms and you have a sophisticated evening look. Found in the SS14 collections of almost every runway designer, our favourites were by Dries Van Noten and Céline.

Spring-trends-2014-Patterned-T

Add a touch of drama to your average solid tee and opt for version that sees black and white graphics splattered across it. We like it in tank form too. With bold prints like this, more than one person will be casting stares. And while prints work well on their own, this season try them mixed up with a coloured pattern to add extra pop!

Spring-trends-2014-Floral-Shirt

Delicately designed floral patterns create a look worthy of the Princess of Monaco. And the best way to wear these spring buds is in the form of a romantic loose-cut top. Ultra feminine and an easy piece to carry over into your summer wardrobe, this piece will keep you on trend for more than one season. For the loveliest of SS14’s designs, look to the floral monarch itself, Erdem. Whatever the label, this print will brighten any a Sunday stroll or late afternoon brunch.

Spring-trends-2014-Crop-Top

Bare midriffs aren’t going way, so if you haven’t already, it’s time to embrace the crop top. Wear it sporty, flirty or with French Rivera-class, the choices are endless. One of our favourite ways of wearing it is fitted matched with a high-waisted flowy bottom. With baggy back in, a looser-fitting version is the perfect addition to your wardrobe. So basically, with no signs of this trend waning, better stick to the yoga classes, that waistline of yours is going to get some major attention this season!

Spring-trends-2014-Sheer

Sheer (like see through sheer) and elegance are two words that are not often paired together — at least not when talking about a fashion piece. But, as the SS14 runways have shown us, playing peek-a-boo isn’t just for those who consider themselves more spice than sugar anymore. What better way for city girls to stay cool under the sun than in a sheer white top — strategically and stylistically sheer that is. Best when loose, if everyday wear is the goal, the materials for the season’s sheer looks are surprisingly flattering (partially because they’re not smeared to your body), and go well with anything from blue jeans to a little leather mini. Remember, balance is the key to wearing this piece right; avoid tight tight and sheer sheer to keep it modern.
